Fermly Selects: Five Inspiring Women for Women’s History Month
We’re closing down Women’s History Month with a toast to fellow female-owned and operated businesses! Here are some women in the industry who have inspired Emily Wang.
Dana Garves is the Founder of Oregon BrewLab and a TTB certified brewing chemist who built the QA/QC Lab at Ninkasi Brewing. Inspired by her belief that the future of beer is in quality control, Dana’s launchedOregon BrewLab to provide affordable beer analyses for the brewing industry, and new opportunities to learn about a variety of topics through her Fireside Chats.
Julia Herz is the CEO of HerzMuses Enterprises and the former craft beer program director at the Brewers Association, and the former publisher of CraftBeer.com. At HerzMuses, Julia channels her decades of experience to consult small businesses and nonprofit organizations. She also just launched a campaign #GrayForGood, a 2021 global grassroots campaign devoted to celebrating all women-identified individuals who go gray and eradicating the gender equity gap by increasing charitable giving to women and girls focused causes. Julia is a strong voice in the craft beer space and across a variety of industries.
Alyssa Thorpe is the Head Brewer at Jagged Mountain and also the force behind @Southernbeergirl, a channel that inspires brewing education and encourages women to be a part of the craft beer community. She is a firm believer in doing something you love, never giving up, and surrounding yourself with the support of others to fuel your success. As Head Brewer, Alyssa is the creative genius behind Jagged Mountain’s innovative and adventurous beers and traditional styles alike. Some notable beers Alyssa has crafted recently are the Four Pass Pils and Juice Cleanse Mango Lassi Sour, which we’ve enjoyed thoroughly in her good company.
Amy Todd is the owner and operator of Zymology Labs, an independent testing lab for fermented beverages. She is a TTB certified brewing chemist and brings her 10+ years of experience in analyses and QA to benefit the craft industry, beginning at Magic Hat and most recently Zero Gravity. Zymology labs works to ensure the quality and consistency of craft beers and ciders through fast analytical testing.
Theresa Schirner is the Co-Owner and Head Brewer of Mirror Image, a family-owned brewery and pizzeria in Frederick, Colorado. Theresa spearheads the daily operations at Mirror Image, including managing staff, overseeing the kitchen, and her favorite aspect of the business: brewing the beer. Mirror Image (formerly Echo Brewing Company) has won three GABF medals, two for their Balefire Red Ale, and one for KIRBY was a BLONDE Dog, a German Golden Ale. She works hard to push Mirror Image to the next level, connecting with customers and never shying away from asking for help.
